Original Borough - Rossendale

A drystone-wall maze with spiralling walls acknowledges the circular motion of time that will return this land back to woodland. Designed like a spinning waterwheel in dry stone. The work has 5 paths into the centre which is planted with an oak tree. The work is 16m in diameter - the outer wall starts at 1.2m coming down to seats at 46cm on the inner circle.

White-blossomed hawthorn, apple and cherry are planted around the outer circle so in the spring the trees appear like foaming water around a wheel. All paths through the woodland (to be planted) will converge on the sculpture, leading the walker into the centre, which is a calm reflective, sunlit space. The inner circle is big enough to seat a class of school children and makes an ideal small outdoor theatre space in the round.
