In 2010 the Friends of Islington Park embarked on a project to restore a weather-damaged mosaic artwork in the park.

Originally created in 1992, the mosaic was designed by pupils from nearby St Philips School. For the restoration project the Friends of Islington Park worked with the original pupils who created the mosaic and they in turn involved their own children.

The centre of original artwork had to be replaced and the new design, developed with local school children, focused on the Secret Garden, written by Frances Hodgson Burnett who had lived in Islington as a young girl.

Islington Park is a remembrance garden for the 17,000 people, who were buried there between the harsh years 1829 and 1853.
